winter soup club begins

Now that this last cold front seems to really mean business (i.e. I think our 85 degree days are truly over and the summer clothes can safely be put away.... at least I think so...), it's time to get down with some soup, stew, and chili.  My friend Susie said she used to have a soup club in Virginia where a group of friends would take turns making soup for the rest of the group.  She didn't need to say much more!  We quickly formed a group of five and developed a rotation schedule.  Pictured above is a tomato soup with coconut milk and peanuts (and potato chip garnish!), a creation invented and made real by Leah.  I've never tasted tomato soup anything like this!  It was intriguing and awakened all the right taste buds.  Leah said it was inspired by the peanut butter and garden-fresh tomato sandwiches she used to make... never heard of these but I'm game.  Throw some potato chips on there, some tomato jam?  Now we're talkin...

I didn't get a specific recipe from her because you can't tie that woman down with recipes!  Just know that it was delicious and I guess you had to be there to enjoy it.  The first rule of Soup Club?  Don't give away your secrets...
