the calm before the summer


Today I woke to a lovely breakfast in bed made by Carson.  He really is a French toast-master.  This batch was super crispy and buttery with a perfectly creamy middle, topped with brown sugar skillet bananas, with a bit of syrup on the side (I always go very light on the syrup when it comes to breakfast cakes), fresh-sliced strawberries, and bacon cooked to a near-charred crisp, just the way I like it!

Way a great way to start the morning before an afternoon canoeing on on Town Lake Lady Bird Lake (I'll get it right one day)...

The weather was warm but the sky was uncharacteristically cloudy, letting out sunlight only occasionally, which ended up being a blessing in disguise since was wearing shorts and sporting a fresh thigh tattoo that did not need to see the Texas sun quite yet...

It's getting to be that time of the year where I begin to realize our springtime days are very limited and summer is on the verge of ruthless invasion.  In months and weeks to come, canoeing will not be nearly as enjoyable as waterside lounging-with-constant-dipping will be.  In other words, now is the time to get our camp/tube/boat on...


And, of course, no trip to the river seems complete without Chuy's queso and a frozen margarita (this one swirled with prickly pear)!  (Their regular menu I could do without.. but there is crack in the queso, and their frozen margaritas are perfectly strong and not too sour!)  Ah, this is the life in Austin, TX...
