a taste of North Austin

we will judge you

Something fun happened recently: I was asked to judge a food festival! I represented CultureMap Austin as one of four judges of the 6th Annual Taste North Austin festival at the Domain. The others were Rob Balon (Austin's O.G. food critic), Bettie Cross of KEYE-TV, and Hayden Walker, creator of the YouTube show Texas Food Crawlers.

Thank goodness we were seated under the shady comfort of some trees on what was easily the hottest day of the year so far! That didn't seem to stop anyone else-- the main street of the Domain was filled with strollers and shoppers enjoying samples at each booth. My personal favorite dishes were the sweet potato vichyssoise from Cru, the watermelon shrimp from Urban, and the bruschetta from NoRTH Italian Farmhouse. (Might I have been a bit biased by the weather? Perhaps! All my favorites were packed with flavor and refreshingly cool-- I don't think a steaming hot dish would've stood a chance!)

For details on who took home first, second and third place, check out my coverage on CultureMap Austin!
