BOOKS
Since 2015, I’ve written five books that explore the world through the lens of food, drink and travel. From a cookbook celebrating the bold magic of fish sauce to a deep dive into the craft of Texas barbecue, each one reflects what I love most: the culture behind what we eat and drink, and the joy of sharing it.
My biggest project to date, Texas BBQ: The Art of Low and Slow (HarperCollins, 2025) is a comprehensive exploration of the best barbecue across the state of Texas, filled with pitmaster profiles and interviews, detailed history and beautiful images. This coffee table book is a must-have (and a perfect gift!) for any lover of barbecue.
Drink Like a Local: Austin (HarperCollins, 2023) is a field guide to the city’s best and most iconic watering holes, from dives to cocktail bars (and everything in between), with plenty of Austin history and exclusive drink recipes.
I co-authored this 2nd edition of San Antonio, Austin & The Hill Country Guide (Fodor’s Travel, 2021), a travel guide covering the region’s best places to explore, dine, shop and stay.
I collaborated with acclaimed chef Bryce Gilmore and the rest of the brilliant minds behind the Odd Duck restaurant group (Odd Duck, Sour Duck Market and Barley Swine) to create the Odd Duck Almanac, a zany ‘zine-inspired community cookbook (Cattywampus Press, 2019).
My first book, The Fish Sauce Cookbook (Andrews McMeel, 2015), is all about fish sauce and its many delicious (and unexpected) uses, featuring recipes from award-winning chefs around the globe.
